God’s Punchbag – 060513

Sponsored by “Y album (temporary)”.

More constructive day today. Programmed up two MIDI synth parts in CE5 using the Roland Juno-D/Phonic Firefly/HALion One (Ascending Sweep)/Minimogue VA (Rising).

I also added one my Sound Effect Library SFX.

Some editing is required to the vocal parts, but not too much. Might be able to manage that tomorrow.

The Moral Guardians Make A Housecall – 201012

Sponsored by “Y album (temporary)”.

The more eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that I didn’t do any editing at all yesterday, in spite of my vain promise to do so.

But I made up for it today. I edited the Tele parts in CE5 and tweaked a number of the Les Paul parts too.

And I went further and programmed up 8 MIDI drum parts, using the Roland Juno-D/Phonic Firefly/Kore Player Sky Kit. I’ll edit those tomorrow.

Plus, I also tracked the metronome from the track in CE5, using the Phonic Firefly and the Behringer  Xenyx 1202 mixer. The metronome is in 3/4 time, but there is a section with a rather odd jazz-y time signature and the “rub” between the 3/4 metronome and the jazz-y bit is rather interesting, so I’ll chuck the metronome into the mix too in the relevant sections. Audio cleanup in AA3.

More tomorrow.

Likely Suspects – 130912

Sponsored by “X album (temporary) ” and “Y album (temporary)”.

Recorded 8 Jazz Bass parts on the Tascam, using the Bass Pod XT.

Totally randomly, I came up with a rather nice overdriven bass tone – Burnel-esque, but more like NO MORE HEROES than BLACK AND WHITE. No matter, I’m a happy bunny.

Audio cleanup in AA3 and inserted into the relevant project file in CE5.

More tracking tomorrow, hopefully, unless Life gives me lemons, in which case, I’ll…oh, never mind…;-)

BTW, still haven’t fixed the Sennheiser headphones – I’m trying to find someone who actually knows what they’re doing with a soldering iron. In the meantime, I bought a cheapo pair of Technika cans from Tesco. They’ll do for the moment.

Wednesday – 030812

Sponsored by “Y album (temporary)”.

Kinda inappropriate to begin work on a track called WEDNESDAY on a Friday, but there ya go – welcome to my world…;-).

Recorded 4 tracks of 12-string electro-acoustic guitar (Godman) on the Tascam. DI’d – no Pod 2.0. Audio cleanup in AA3 and inserted into the  relevant project file in CE5.

This was my first time actually playing chords on the Godman – more of a mode really I suppose (not really sure what I’m talking about there, to be honest…), and I played them all the way through from start to finish. OK,  the song won’t be very long – about 2 mins or so, but I thought I’d give it a shot and it worked out OK. I’ll probably use two of the tracks panned left and right. Sounds lovely as is – not the most accurate playing, I guess, but by the time I’ll be finished with the track, it shouldn’t be too noticeable.

Had an issue with the USB stick that I use to transfer files from the PC to the Tascam via the laptop. The PC wouldn’t pick up the stick at first, so I couldn’t transfer my prepared beats to the Tascam. Had to use the Tascam’s internal metronome, which I’d never done before. Worked out fine. Bizarrely, the USB stick worked OK when transferring files back to the PC. Might be my USB hub…

All going well, this should be a lovely track. Have a nice little bass line worked out for it. And other ideas.
